Ideal Thermostat Settings for Every Season
The Best Temperature for your Hot and Cold Seasons
Most of us have four seasons, and of those four seasons, two are a bit extreme. One of those seasons are extremely cold and dry, and the other season is hot and humid.
Some households take in the habit of cranking the cool air down to 70 degrees in the summer to walk around in a sweater and pants, and turn the heat up to 74 in the winter to wear tee shirts and light clothes.
You find your energy bill is high in those seasons, and your pocket is light. So, what can you do to lower that energy bill?
Summer Time Changes
In the summer, along with dressing lighter and utilizing ceiling fans, the best temperature to run your air conditioning is at 78 degrees. While it may not create an icy breeze when you walk in from the hot air, it allows for more of a climate consistency. At the same time, it helps improve the longevity of your air conditioning unit.
Winter Setting
When the winter months roll around, often folks are reaching to pump up the heat to 74 degrees. Often folks end up walking around in tee shirts and rather uncovered. The best option is truly to pull out those huge sweaters and fluffy socks, and dial down the heat to a moderate 68 degrees, you'll see that you can live comfortably with a couple changes and save money, all the while.
Maintain Your Temperature
There are other things you can do to help your home maintain the internal temperature. One great investment would be to cover your windows in plastic.
This can be sticking saran wrap to enclose the inside of the window or getting more discrete plastic window covering. Along with that, you can get thermal curtains and keep the curtain in unoccupied rooms closed.
Also, you can take the time to seal up your doors and exit points. To reduce any drafts to an absolute minimum will help keep your air, that you paid for, held inside.
While it maybe a drastic change for some, the temperate that are best for a healthy house budget reflect similar to the temperature outside.
The difference in temperature from outside and inside is noticeable, and with a couple additions to and fixes, you will save big.
