Differences of Radiant Heat
Radiant heat is much different than forced air heat. There is no ductwork. Instead, in most cases tubing is used to carry warm water throughout the installation area. The heat from the water radiates to warm the structure. The tubing is installed in panels which can be used in floors, ceilings or walls. Alternately, ceiling and wall panels can use electricity to also warm the panel area which radiates throughout the room.

Typically radiant floors use a layer of concrete as a transfer agent the heat. For renovation projects, a thin layer of concrete can be poured over the existing subfloor. Another concern with wall panels is leaking. Care is needed when installing the system to ensure all connections are secure and tight. Tubing must be protected from cuts or holes during the installation. But once installed, the system is pretty much maintenance free.
