Is a Fall Furnace Tune-Up Worth It?

When you search the internet or Reddit, you'll see plenty of people saying tune-ups are a way for HVAC companies to get in your door and find things to sell you. That skepticism didn't come from nowhere, because there are nefarious HVAC companies out there.

But that is not us. We take pride in our revolutionary service and honesty. Here's why an HVAC tune-up special with Colonial Plumbing, Heating & Air is worth it, along with what it covers and what it doesn't.

What an HVAC tune-up does

It catches things before they fail. We look for little things, like hairline cracks or partial blockages in the flue. It's better to catch these things during a fall furnace tune-up before winter rushes in and everyone in the Tri-Cities region is calling us all at once.

It also keeps your warranty valid. Most manufacturers require documented annual maintenance to honor the warranty on your system.

Finally, it helps with efficiency. A clean filter, a calibrated thermostat, and a properly adjusted burner will run better than a neglected system.

What an HVAC tune-up doesn't do

Our HVAC techs aren't waving magic wands that turn old systems into something brand new. Sometimes a tune-up is just buying you some time before you will eventually need to replace your HVAC system. If that is the case, we will let you know.

When you probably don't need a fall furnace tune-up

If you recently had your HVAC unit replaced, you won't need a fall furnace tune-up if you had one last spring.

Same goes if you're on our Revolutionary Service Club: maintenance is already covered.

Why Schedule a Fall Furnace Tune-Up

Most furnaces will fail when they fire up for the first chilly morning of the year.

So, why is that?

Your heating system has been off since around March. That means eight months of not running. And when it is not running, dust settles inside and parts aren't moving. So, when it first fires up again, those parts that haven't run for a while are suddenly strained. That's when things break.

Why is that a big deal?

Mostly because everyone is calling and trying to schedule a furnace repair during the same week, and we just don't have enough techs to handle that load all at the same time.

Using our HVAC tune-up specials in September or October means easier scheduling.
