Learn Why Your AC is Blowing Hot Air

Why is your AC blowing hot air when it supposed to be cooling you down? How frustrating! Before your own temperature rises with your frustration, learn about some of the possible causes for this problem.

Most of these are quick and easy fixes, which means that you’ll be cool again in no time.

Preventative Maintenance to Stay Cool

Are you in the habit of changing your air filter every month? You should. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons that your system will blow hot air.

Additionally, sometimes condensation will freeze on the dirty filter, creating more flow problems.

Also, if your filter is dirty, it isn’t going to work efficiently. Your system will work harder than it has to and will cost you more in energy bills.

The Deep Freeze

It can be tempting when it is extremely hot outside to crank your thermostat way down.frozen

Unfortunately, this can result in your air conditioner freezing on you.

The only way to fix this is time.

You’ve got to turn the AC off and let it thaw.

Thawing usually takes a couple of hours.

To avoid this from repeating, keep your thermostat set to 72°F at all times.

Leaking Refrigerant

If your refrigerant line is damaged, the coolant will leak out, making it impossible for your air conditioner to blow cool air.

Get a technician to inspect your line and top up your fluid.

Proper Setting

Is your thermostat on? Make sure that it says cool.

You’d be surprised at how many people forget to turn it from heat after the winter.

Clean Around the Condenser

Is it possible that trees or bushes are blocking air flow outdoors around your condenser?

Check that and take care to make sure that nothing is growing around there by trimming regularly.

Flipped Switch

It is possible that the breaker has tripped on your air conditioner.

Make sure that the breaker is in the on position.

It can flip because of a power surge.
